Intel Optane Memory Products Will Run Only On Systems With 7th Generation Intel Processors
Intel's Optane storage-class memory products are not yet available but Intel has confirmed that the PC version of the product will run only on systems based on the 7th-generation Core i7, i5 and i3 CPU.
Intel Optane memory is a new memory technology that accelerates your system, promising to deliver high speed and responsiveness without compromising system storage capacity. When combined with a large storage drive, the Intel Optane memory M.2 module accelerates computer performance, while maintaining capacity. "A hard disk drive coupled with Intel Optane memory affordably gives you SSD-like speed while maintaining large-storage capacity," according to Intel.
But most importantly, those advantages will be available on PC systems equipped with a 7th Gen Intel Core i-series processor, installed to an Intel 200 series chipset," plus "M.2 type 2280-S1-B-M or 2242-S1-B-M connector on a PCH Remapped PCIe Controller and Lanes in a x2 or x4 configuration with B-M keys that meet NVMe Spec 1.1 and System BIOS that supports the Intel Rapid Storage Technology (Intel RST) 15.5 driver."
