Both graphics chips giants will launch a "GT" version of their Geforce 7800 and ATI X800 video cards. The news comes from The Inqiurer website, and the provided technical details have not yet been confirmed by the rival graphics manufacturers.

Geforce 7800 GT will be clocked at 400 MHz core and 1000 MHz memory, while the number of featured pipelines is assumed to be 20 or 24. Its memory has a 256 bit interface resulting in a total 32 GB/s of memory bandwidth.

The Geforce 7800 GT will hit shelves on the 11th of August, with a price tag of US$400.

ATI has its own GT version. The company will soon introduce the X800GT card. Although the card is not comparable to the NVIDIA Geforce 7800 GT in terms of performance, the ATI X800GT is a mainstream and cheaper card than the XT and XT PE versions.

The ATI X800GT is an eight pipelines card based on the R430PRO chip developed on 110 nanometre architecture, featuring 160 million transistors. It will be available as both a 128MB and 256 MB card, in both cases featuring a 256 bit memory interface. The card will be clocked at 392 MHz core and 700 MHz memory and will come with GDDR3 or DDR1 memory. It is a PCIe 16 X card but it is assumed that ATI can make an AGP version pairing this chip with its well known Rialto bridge chip. It is also possible the X800GT will support the CrossFire technology.

ATI's X800GT card will be available for less than US$200.
