Sony's new digital SLR is a semi-professional model aimed at the middle of the market, currently the territory of the Canon EOS 40D, Nikon D300 and Pentax K10D. Can its combination of 12-megapixel resolution, and environmentally-sealed body, sophisticated AF and image stabilisation systems and high-speed performance further increase Sony's already growing market share?

If the speakers on your laptop are too weedy for words and you're fed up of being tethered by your headphones, the USB powered Sony SRS-T10PC portable speaker set may be just perfect for you. However, the lack of battery power or auxiliary input means their uses are limited (campers and backpackers need not apply) and more powerful mains options are available for those holidaying in a hotel or self catering apartment.

Sony's latest all-in-one is a undeniably stylish machine that's powerful, and well featured, with highlights including a Blu-ray drive and dual hybrid tuners. It's not hideously expensive for what you get either - there's no denying that this is a first class machine.

With the Walkman NWZ series, Sony has finally created the nano killer the NW series always should've been. Being able to drag and drop files to it makes managing your music a breeze, while the superior sound quality and bundled headphones round out the package. Best of all, though, is you get all this for less money than any other player in its class.

The Sony HES-V1000 Home Entertainment Server is a library in a box. With a 500GB hard drive, plus room for over 200 Blu-ray discs in its built-in changer, the unit's capacity borders on absurdity. The hard drive alone can handle 137 hours of video, 40,000 songs or 20,000 digital photos. A full load of 25GB single-layer Blu-ray discs would represent an additional 5TB in digital storage - 10TB if they were dual layer. Simply put, if the HES-V1000 can't hold your entire media collection in one form or another, you have a problem.

The Sony GPS Location Recorder is the ideal accessory for anyone who's into travel photography. With a minimum of setting-up and extremely simple operation it can accurately and reliably pinpoint the location of your photographs, and display them on a map or satellite image. For the price it offers a great way to take advantage of the latest satellite technology, and adds a new dimension to your holiday snaps.

Assuming AVCHD is the nascent consumer video format for the high definition era - and it's fast becoming so - then Sony's HDR-SR8E provides the most accomplished implementation of it we've seen. The low light abilities are a disappointment, but with its 100GB storage, decent still images and comprehensive feature set, the SR8E is the best hard-disk AVCHD camcorder yet, and the high price seems fairly reasonable for such a capable piece of kit.

The SR72E does store many minutes of video, but the level of video noise evident in virtually all lighting conditions would only be acceptable in a bargain-basement MiniDV camcorder, not in one where you're paying a £200 premium for hard disk recording as well.

With the VPL-VW50, Sony has proved that SXRD really does have the potential to become a mass market phenomenon, serving up a scintillating performance that makes the £2,700 price tag seem almost ridiculously affordable.

Any Sony fanatics with the necessary readies to afford a VW100 - including its potentially stratospheric running costs - can buy one safe in the knowledge that they'll be blown away by what it's capable of. But although its colours are slightly more natural at times, overall we can't honestly say that the VW100 outperforms JVC's DLA-HD1...
