Hello!

When i read the preview, i thought, that the Mitsumi is a good writer, but not the fastest.

But after read that(german), i donīt think so. Itīs a really slow writer, writes Prodisc 52x at 16x

One media recording speed does not define a writer's overall speed.

I am concerned, however, about the instability of this writer, especially during reading.

Hello!

There are more than one media with 16x. And in compare with the Asus and LG drives itīs the slowest drive, but the only 54x-drive

I have the 485GTE which is identical to 485FTE.
I cannot burn anything over 16X!!!
i have mitsumi, sony, no name brand that worked at 40X on LG.
I'm so mad right now...i pay this amount of money and get something that burns at 16X when i could have gotten something that will almost ensure that i will get around 40-48X out of it. I even emailed mitsumi, all they said is "try these cds which will work at 54X"
i don't care about those cds which cost 2X the price of the cds i got. I just want decent speed, and 16X is not what i have in mind out of a 54X. I have the latest firmwire, XP SP1, tried Roxio 5, 6 and nero 5.5 and 6. None of them will allow me to burn faster than 16X. It's probably the sensor inside the CDRW that's telling the drive not to burn higher than that and the weird thing? It determines the write speed when u put in the SOURCE cd...not the destination cd.

More than likely, this is a firmware issue. Try communicating with the company you purchased the drive from Mitsumi, and tell them the exact brand of media, and submit the ATIP to them, perhaps they will upgrade the firmware to allow higher write speeds with that particular media.

This is always a concern with a cdrw drive, as new media is introduced, it is not always immediately available, because the companies have not had time to analyze the media, and determine it's best write speed for the drive. When you read the review, the review includes the media used for testing, perhaps you could obtain some of this particular media, or at a last resort, the one the manufacturer has recommended to you.

I understand your frustration, but as stated above, media and firmware are always an issue with a drive.

Well...i've tried the mitsumi cd on my friend's laptop burner which can burn at 24X. It still goes back to 16X...think there's something wrong with this spindle...
I just emailed mitsumi so i'll wait a little before i send them the atip...the cd is made by postech i think...and i heard they're pretty crappy.

Wing,

Yes, this does seem to be the answer. I would suggest that you try some better media. I do not think that there is a problem, with your drive, as other users have this drive, and have not reported such a problem. Hopefully, some better media will resolve this issue, and we will see you soon happily burning at the drive's advertised speed! Please let us know!
