Hi there,

When i put the NEC ND3520A dvd writer into the PC, my computer detects it in windows as v1.04, is that version number known as the firmware? and thats what it was when it came from the factory.
Ok, could somebody tell me, what is the latest official firmware for my drive?

Nero InfoTool is pretty much the standard tool for this, it will get you the info you want and then some! Hope this helps.
Edit, the sticky at the top of this forum should answer your Q, "NEC 3520A and OEM official firmware overview!"

However there are some new versions of 1.04 firmware... The latest is dated 21.12.2004 and is on ScorpioSoft's site.

Scorpiosoft can you please tell me, is the v1.24 firmware for the NEC ND3520A on your website an official NEC firmware update, i do not want to void my warranty,

Also the plextor 716A is releasing a v1.05 firmware later in March, thats going to be a update from the V1.04 that is curenttly coming factory installed for the 716A, So what i would like to know is how come the NEC has gone from v1.04 and jumped up to v1.24?

What has happend to v1.05 v1.06 v1.07 etc etc?

dvdbunny, as you can see on my page there is a original 1.24 firmware that was made for the I-O Data drive but is renamed to NEC. NEC itself did NOT release a 1.24 yet. So the latest original NEC firmware is still the 1.04 version.

Q: Can you explain the firmware numbering cause I am confused, 2.06=2.16=2.76?
A: NEC follows a pattern for each firmware revision: 2.xy, where:

X = Type (Retail, OEM, Rebadge)
Y = Revision number

Till today know patterns:

X = 0 (OEM)
X = 1 (Retail)
X = 2 (I-O Data)
X = 4 (Freecom)
X = 7 (TDK)
X = B (Ricoh)
X = F (MadDog)
----------------------
Y = 6
Y = 7
Y = 8
----------------------

Probably the 1.04 with 21.12.04 date would be the best firmware, even doesn't support Bitsetting for +R/+RW, like 1.24 does!
