I have a new Memorex double layer 16x internal DVD writer and can't format either a Sony or Fiji DVD+RW 4x disc, both brand new. All other Nero software, incl. Nerovision, works fine. I even downloaded the latest 4.3 version, but still get the error message asking if it is compatible or scratched. I have the error.log file, it reads:

The irony is that inCD4 formated a RW disc when I used it in my home computer (Win XP home), but the inCD format fails on the same Memorex drive when it's in my work computer (Win 2000). Can someone help, thanks.

Do you have ASPI installed? If so, which version?
ASPI v4.60 and v4.71.2 are the recommended versions.

Packet writing software always causes similar problems. Btw do you have the latest firmware for drive?

How do I check ASPI version no.? BTW, I changed the DVD+RW drive to master, but that still didn't work. I'll check on latest firmware.
And, this drive won't even read a disc successfully formatted with inCD on my home computer. Thanks for all your help, guys.

ASPI v4.60 (1021)
ftp://ftp.adaptec.com/software_pc/aspi/aspichk.exe
ftp://ftp.adaptec.com/software_pc/aspi/aspi32.exe

ASPI v4.71.2 (includes an updated aspichk.exe)
http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/driverdetail.jsp?sess=no&language=English+US&filekey=aspi_471a2.exe
ftp://ftp.adaptec.com/software_pc/aspi/aspi_471a2.exe

Note:
- Verify that the versions match up...should say they're installed correctly or something.
- Under WinXP, ASPI v4.71.2 should only have 2 of 4 files installed. Just ignore the warning text too.

I updated the Memorex drive with the latest firmware and installed ASPI 4.71 files, but inCD will still not format a Sony DVD+RW disc on my work computer w/ Win 2000. But this same drive did format a DVD+RW disc on my home computer w/ Win XP.
I don't know what else to try, any suggestions, anyone??? I sent a support request email to NERO, but still no reply.

InCD version 4.x has never worked properly on my Windows XP system. It is known that InCD does not work on a system that has Alcohol 120% installed. An alternative for InCD is Sonic DLA (Drive Letter Access). It works for me. See this topic that I posted half a year ago on CD Freaks Forum.

After uninstalling inCD, I tried Sonic DLA, but it didn't work. Anyone else know of a packet-writing software I can download to use in place of inCD. Thanks for help, guys.

There's something to fix on the system first. The error log you copy-paste shown write command failing with an empty sense-info. This is abnormal. I suggest to check for motherboard bios update and WHQL'ed signed chipset driver, in case the IDE controller is the one forgetting to return the sense info of failures.

I already have the latest bios update from Dell. As far as the IDE controller driver: all of them have 2-22-2000 and 5-30-2000 dates, so I'll check to see if I can find an updated driver(s) from either Dell, Microsoft, or Intel. My Dell computer is only 3 years old, this shouldn't be happening.
This problem is very frustrating and time-consuming, I may just call Nero tech-support and pay the $1.29 per min. and get it fixed if I don't have any success by early next week. Until then, I'm open to suggestions.

Have you tried the latest InCD 4.3.11.1?

Yes: A brand new Sony DVD+RW gets 90% formatted before the same "Error.....check that disc is compatible... etc." message comes.
Later this month when I have more time, I may try updating chipset & controller device drivers in my 3-year old Dell computer to see if that helps, and/or just call Nero and pay the $1.29 per minute for tech support to see if I can get inCD working. Thanks for all the help guys.

BTW, you never did say what CPU & chipset you have on your Dell. Assume that you have an Intel chipset since you mentioned them above.

Also if by chance you have an Intel chipset with the Intel Application Accelerator (IAA) installed, I would try to uninstall them. At the very least make sure you have the latest version that is compatible with your chipset. Going by your "3 year old Dell" statement, the latest for you is probably the IAA v2.3. Again, it's best to uninstall IAA and just use the Microsoft native IDE drivers.

For your convenience, here are the latest Intel chipset drivers (aka INF drivers):
http://support.intel.com/support/chipsets/inf/

Also here is that latest Intel Application Accelerator drivers (requires Intel chipset drivers):

I have a Intel 815 chipset with 82801A (ICH2) IO Controller. I have either the latest or next latest drivers from Dell on both bios & controller. My Win 2000 oper. sys. has only Serv. Pack 1 installed. In looking thru the MS Win. website, I could find no update or serv. pack that addressed this issue. I still get an inCD format error log as follows:

05e8 05:01:14 13:49:04:16 e=0. Media is a DVD+RW.
05e8 05:01:14 13:49:08:14 e=0. Media is a DVD+RW.

Any ideas?????

Ah ha! Perhaps you should update to SP4 to satisfy the requirements of Nero.
http://www.nero.com/us/Nero_6_Ultra_Edition_Update_System_Requirements.html

Make sure you have un-installed the Intel Application Accelerator (don't re-install afterwards) before doing so...if you have it installed. Should be in your Add/Remove Programs or on the Start->Programs menu if it's installed.

After you update to SP4, I would re-install the latest Intel Chipset INF drivers and also re-check that your ASPI drivers are still correct.

I forgot to mention that IAA is not installed on my computer. I'll try the SP4 update, etc., and post results. Thanks.
