Hey all - I'm a newbie and was just wondering if anyone can help me understand DVD+RW disc preparation. I've just got myself a new NEW 3500A DVDRAM drive, Nero 6.6 and I've got several Sony DVD+RW discs. I've had a CD-RW drive for a long time and prior to using CD_RW discs on that I had to run a routine on my Roxio software to format those CD-RW's so that the disc could be ready to drag and drop files onto etc.

I think I have to do the same thing with DVD+RW discs, since I cannot drag and drop onto one yet....there is no utility/option to do this within Nero 6.6....any guidance for this freshman would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks! DGM

You need to install InCD. Never used the stuff myself, so I can't tell you if it's good/better/worse than something like Roxio's DirectCD.

InCD will enable packet writing at your system, i personally avoid using this technology...

cause its not so reliable, if something goes wrong usually data is lost, i prefer writing with normal writing to +RW media

I see....so do you mean you do normal/regular burning to DVD+RW discs, and when the time comes to re-write on that same disc and your burning software will know to re-write the disc automatically?

I use Nero and I know that when I open the disc info in the burning interface it sees the disc type as DVD-R or DVD+RW, whatever is in the drive...I just haven't tried burning anything on a DVD+RW disc yet since I don't want to waste them.....this is because I'm used to having to prepare a re-writeable disk like with packet writing software like Roxio which is what I use on another one of my systems with a CD-RW drive.

Looking forward to your reply emperor...and thanks.

Yes, just burn them as normal discs. Then when you are ready to reuse them, simply erase them, and burn again. As Emperor stated above, packet writing is so unstable, I would definately not trust it.

That explains it! Guess that's what the 'erase' button is there for in Nero eh? Thanks - will make excellent use of this from now on.....this newbie really appreciate your insights....
