Minos I would suggest to change the name of this thread, and include the 2.5.

Hi Minos, i'm having problem with this latest firmware. It seems that nero either hangs or is not able to erase/write a CD-RW properly (gives error writting to media). I'm having these problems since flashing with 2.5 and only tested with CD-RW not DVD medias. Looking through the changes file i can read that in 2.4 they fixed some hangs on systems with nForce chipset & WinXP SP2 (exactly what I have !!), could they forgot to put that fix in 2.5 ??
Anyway I reverted back to firmware 2.4 and all is working smoothly as before with CDs and DVDs...

Hello, since I flashed to firmware B2.5, I cannot burn DVD-R. I tried Sony DVD-R (4-speed) and That's Write DVD-R (4-speed). When I insert a blank disk, is is not recognized. With firmware B2.0 I could write the Sony, but with a lot of failures and the disk was only readable in the PC, not a dvd-player. I cannot format or write to my CD-RW (Arita Professional, 4-speed), but Maxell CD-RW (10-speed) works rather fine.

Do others also have trouble writing to DVD-R and CD-RW?

Sony 4x DVD-R
Disc Type = DVD-R (Single Layer)
Disc MID = 53 4F 4E 59 30 34 (SONY04)
Disc TID = 44 31 00 00 00 00 (D1....)
Nominal Capacity = 4.36GB
Manufacturer Maybe = Sony Corporation
SMART-BURN Speed Limit = 0.0X (Write)

That'sWrite 4x DVD-R
Disc Type = DVD-R (Single Layer)
Disc MID = 56 44 53 50 FFFFFFAD 53 (VDSP.S)
Disc TID = 41 42 20 30 31 00 (AB 01.)
Manufacturer Maybe = Interaxia AG
SMART-BURN Speed Limit = 0.0X (Write)

Disc Type = NORMAL CD-RW

Lead Out = 74:41:00
Nominal Capacity = 656.10MB
Manufacturer Maybe = Plasmon Data Systems Ltd.
SMART-BURN Speed Limit = 4X (Write)

Maxell CD-RW80 700Mb 10x
Disc Type = HIGH SPEED CD-RW
Material = Phase Change
Lead In = 97:27:00
Lead Out = 79:59:74
Nominal Capacity = 702.83MB
Manufacturer Maybe = Ricoh Company Limited
SMART-BURN Speed Limit = 10X (Write)

I had several errors with my computer: Athlon 3200+ 64 bits. 1 Gig mem. MSIK8MM=ILSRB. First it had a weird hang for about 10 seconds. With the firmwareupgrade for my PCDV6116 Romplayer I solved that issue

I upgraded my PBDV1640B/00 and now (finally) it works with the 8x DVDR+ writebles from Philips itself. Funny though that the red light when burning isn't there anymore, nut who cares... I like green light as much as red ones :)))

Both player are still under warranty, so I hope all stays well now..

Welcome to this forum.

I hope people from Philips to read this since they said that the led shouldn't be red.

I got an answer from Philips about my problems with CD-RW. The 1640 cannot burn CD-RW made for burning with 1-4speed, CD-RW high speed only! My CD-RW burner (NEC) has no problems with high or low speed at all.
