Hi guys,

Can you help me making a purchasing decision.

I want to choose between buy one of these three Finalist CD-RWs to buy:

1- PleXWriter PX-W2410A IDE CDR-W (24x10x40x)

2- Lite-On LTR-24102B IDE CDR-W (24x10x40X)

3- Yamaha CRW2200E IDE CD-RW (20x Burner)

I know that Yamaha will release at the end of October their new 24x10x40 CD-RW but you see for the next 3 days there is this Shopping Expo..and i can't wait cause prices will be cheaper. However, if you can provide me with Links for the Best Plextor and LiteOn prices that can be shipped Internationally i would be grateful also.

I am kind of inclined to go for the PleXWriter because it has 4MB buffer memory and the only one with a FAN. Next choice is the Lite-On cause it is a bit faster than the PleXWriter, but it only has 2MB buffer memory and No FAN. Third is the Yamaha because it has only 20x writing speed, and many Media are not supported or working properly with it, but it has a whopping 8MB Buffer memory.

Now i know that all of the above drives have some kind of Burn Proof/Smart Burn/etc. support, so another question is, does in this case MORE Buffer memory (like in the Yamaha) make a difference or make it worthwhile? or is just the Burn-Proof/ Anti-Coaster Technology enough?

Also, does having a FAN on the Back of the PleXWriter and not on the Lite-On or Yamaha make a difference in Performace etc.?? What does it help with? will the life of a CD-RW be shorter without a FAN??

I want to buy one of these three CD-RWs for two reasons:
A- I am tired of having Coasters and Buffer-Underruns and want a drive with Anti-Coaster/Burn-Proof support.

B- I want the best CD-RW that will work flawlessly with CloneCD to make 100% working copies/backups of ALL Copy Protected PSX/PC game and Software CDs.

Please help me make my ultimate decision to choose one. As i found out from my research that all 3 are good but all have their Pros/Cons that it his hard to choose.

Please provide me with detailed answers of why you think/are sure that one of these CD-RWs is the best in Performance/Tasks for my needs.

I know that the Light-On is the cheapest , then the PleXWriter, then the Yamaha. But the small difference in price doesn't matter to me as long as i can buy the RIGHT one.

But as i said above please do provide, if you can, any links to online-Stores with the best prices and that can SHIP INTERNATIONALLY.

Since CloneCD is important..Plex 24x or LiteOn 24x are the only way. I would say that Plextor might be a better solution if you live in Europe.

The big advantage the plex has that it can copy CDS-100 an audio cd protection.

Some shops give you even 2 years warranty on the lite on but this is on the manufacturring date. So ask your shop.

The fan isn't a big deal and the Smarburn and burnproof both work good.

If it is just about cd roms I think that the lite on is the best option for the best price around there.

Liteon 24102B i say because, Been reading several posts about the 24x Plextor, Apparently the new version (number on plex itself eg: TLA 00000 or alike is the capable version, whereas a later TLA 00001 is not as capable) (can't remember exact TLA's but a search around should yield the difference)

So many guys are now going for the Liteon as all the 2B versions are the same

I think that the Plextor 24x beats anything around and is the best buy. I have one and if I had to choose I would buy it again.

Ehh Titanium CDFREAKS s*cks big times. First they quote me incorrect and present it as an fact. Then when you mail to there news that they didn't quoted it correctly including the testresults that show all plex version (TLA#0000/TLA#0100/TLA#0101) can do CDS-100 and SD2 and SD1 they give me no answer and don't post any of this.

So with this way of spreading rumours they had it for me since there news isn't thrustworthy.

Now for any one who hasn't seen yet and is doubting about the cds-100/SD 1/SD 2 rumours go to the plextor part of this forum and read some posting like.

Can't confirm any 24/10/40A rumour(The Test)
Check if your plex do CDS-100 ?
plextor PX-W2410TA (which has quoted incorrect at CDFREAKS)

And you will see that it all where some bad rumours just like there where other versions than the 24102B of the Lite On 24 speed drive.

By the way no Lite On drive can do CDS-100 at this moment.

Don't get me wrong the Lite On is a great drive I think. For most people it is the best option. But if you really want the best thing out there and you don't care about paying a big price for it then the plexwriter 24/10/40A is the only option at this moment.
Maybe this will change with the new TEAC drive or with some new firmware for the Lite On.
After all plextor could solve the CDS-100 problem for there older drives just with some firmware updates.

I just got my plexor on Friday. I live in the USA. The plextor is the best. I got it for $182.00 usd. I installed it it works perfect. I also have the Plextor Ultraplex Wide. This combination give me the ability to "burn on the fly". It is incredible, I have TLA # 0100. I don't see any problems. I burned Max Payne and Madden 2002 both on the fly. Max Payne took a little longer its overburned. Total burn time was 3min 48sec. for May Payne. Madden 2002 only to and incredible 3min 4sec. and get this i was using TDK 16X cdr's! Totally incredible. Don't buy anything else. You won't be sorry!!!

Oh yea, one last thing the burned copies play in ANY cdrom!!! What more can you ask for?

i got the plex 24/10/40 about two weeks ago and i cannot say enough good things about this drive. it's fast, quiet, works great with clone cd and other burn software, and in my experience works well with lower end media. oh, and even though the old lady still throws me a few jabs about the price; worth every f***ing penny!!!
