Im just about to upgrade my firmware on my NEC3500 from the official 2.16 to the unoffcial 2C8_SE_Ritek_4X_DL. Can anyone tell me if there is any performace difference in terms of writing quality?? Not really concerned with speeds that much.

Also do you recommend this firmware?

I recommend it since it has newer writing strategies which can contribute to greater quality. So you can expect better quality with newer firmware and 2C8 is latest afaik. Of course you can always backup your existing firmware and revert back if you want to.
