Hi all I'm using 2.C8 but I dont' think it matters.

Why does DVDInfoPro show the Drive Interface is ATAPI-3? Shouldn't it be ATAPI-4???

ATA/ATAPI-3 is DMA2 (not UDMA2) which has a max transfer rate of 16Mb only!!!

ATA/ATAPI-4 is UDMA2 and is at 33Mb!

After weeks of experiment, I am 99% sure this is what is tricking my enclosure to function at 16Mb max transfer rate! I have mentioned before using the same enclosure I can get 33Mb with a Seagate HD, but not with the NEC 3500.

For ATA/PIO/DMA/UDMA ref see here

Have you installed the drive as internal or external?

External in an enclosure. I am guessing internal setup is smart enough to figure out the drive is ATAPI-4 (33Mb/s UDMA2), but my enclosure took the NEC's drive signature for granted & chose to set its speed only at ATAPI-3 (slower 16Mb/s DMA2).

Maybe the firmware(s) is the problem. Even the pic you posted earlier says ATAPI-3!

See this thread of yours

Ok, now i understand, i think its normal that DVDInfoPro shows a different value tha UDMA4, many external USB/Firewire cases may not give absolute performance (16X reading/writing)

My newly installed internal 3500 is showing ATAPI-3 also using DVDInfoPro 3.27. I am using WinXP with Ultra DMA mode 5.

This info comes from the drive. Its shows the atapi version command set that drive states it supports. where ATAPI-50 is V5.0 etc. Don't confuse this with the speed of the interface.

I see. If I use ASPI driver in DVDInfoPro, it shows ATAPI-50 but if I use SPTI driver, it shows ATAPI-3.
