Have you tried playing any Dual Layer Disks burned with the LG in your Panasonic?

What model of LG are you using 4120 or 4160? and did you set any of your disks too DVD-ROM
as Panasonic claims that the E-50 is not capiable of playing DVD-ROMs

Is this the same with the Panasonic F87?

I'm thinking of buying the 4160 dvd burner, primarily i just watch xvid with my tv out (as my tv is right next to the puter).
I have a dvd player for my tv(but i can take it back still), so i was wondering how this dvd burner would work as my main dvd player? would the quality of watching a dvd movie on the drive with the video out to tv be as good? also are the programs for watching dvds on computers?
like can you still get the dvd main menu and access the extra's as well? I can get this dvd burner for 65 bucks new. so i figure if it works well for watching dvd movies, then i would also have something that could burn and use for storage as well.

do you recommend this dvd burner?

do you know if sony dvd - + R burn well with this
what do you think the biggest downfalls of this burner are? (what are booktype?)

What about 4163? It isn't much more expensive than 4160, but it's the next model, so it's better.

Dunno that. Probably depends on your computer speed, and quality of TV out. For sure, not on DVD burner reading quality, you won't have problems with that.

I had no problems with that burner, except the one at the beginning, that I already described in this thread. So, I do reccomend it.

Watching - PowerDVD
Burning - Nero

I have burnt succesfully with it over 90 DVDs, but I haven't tried Sony media.

Hmmm... no booktype setting? :) That have something to do with burning DVDs for watching it on standalone DVD players. But I had never have any problems with that, so I don't complain.
Also I had problems with burning TDK media, so I just dont' use them, any other burn fine. And that may be fixed in current of future firmware releases.

My external 4160B keeps crashing my laptop close to finalising the burn. I'm using 304 firmware, princo media and Ulead Movie Factory 4. I'm using InstantWrite CD-ROM driver. I suspect I may not have the correct driver? I'd appreciate any advice. Regards.

i would suggest to remove all packet writing software and use a simple CD/DVD recording software

Thanks for your quick response emperor. I noticed that the Ulead Movie Factory 4 was really slowing my entire laptop response. I've now removed the program and have found that my response has returned to normal. I still think that I may have a problem with my LG GSA-4160B driver though. I can't "safely remove" the hardware without crashing the laptop. The Microsoft on line crash analysis says it's driver related. Any suggestions?

I heard that the LG GSA-4163B has a minimum spec of a Pentium 4 2.4 Ghz CPU otherwise it only burms at X2! Is this true? My spec is Athlon XP1800, 512MB RAM, has anyone got this drive working at the quoted speeds without any problems on a machine of this spec? If not I may have to re-consider the NEC 3520A or Pioneer 109.

I think you were misinformed. If the drive is running at UDMA2 like it should, there is no reason it should be stuck at 2x burning. 16x burning may not be possible on slower machines, but 4x, 8x and possibly 12x burning should pose no problems on most PCs (even some P3 level machines).
