but it seems that my actual firmware is not 2.23 but 2.24.

Hi, please backup your firmware with Binflash and send it to me, before using any other firmware

Hi,
I'm new to this forum, it seems really good...first of all sorry for my english, I'm italian!
I wanted to know how to update my nec 6500a firmware wich a newer/better one...
I explain my situation.
I flashed it with a modified version which had speed improvements and regional lock toggled, this is the readme to make you understand:
"NEC ND-6500A 2.40 RPC1 and Rip Speed Firmware

Included files

README.TXT This file

6500ORIG.EXE Original version as supplied

6500FAST.EXE 6100@6500 and Rip Lock Patches

6500RPC1.EXE RPC1, 6100@6500 and Rip Lock Patches

6100@6500 allows the firmware to work on a 6100A drive if you have one.

Rip Lock removes the speed locks on single and dual layer DVD-ROM discs
with a VIDEO_TS directory.

RPC1 removes region state handling commands and checks.

--------------------------

An RPC1 firmware defeats the internal counters within the drive and
removes region enforcement. This only is HALF of the equation. You
need to use DVD Genie or similar software to control your player
software. http://forum.rpc1.org/viewtopic.php?t=239

Flashing these firmwares requires some risk on your part. If you are not
comfortable with this please do not proceed. We cannot guarantee they will
work or flash correctly in any environment out of our control.

The flasher works in Windows.

Close down all your applications and CD/DVD burning software, especially
things like DirectCD, Drag to Disc and InCD.

Run the flasher with the desired firmware and patch.

Select the drive to be flashed.

Click Flash.

When the flashing completes click Quit.

Restart your system.

Vlad & Igor, The Dangerous Brothers."
I flashed it with this as soon as I have bought it so don't really know what I had before and how it worked...anyway now my nec has booktype it seems(nero can change it) but many disks are not written good and I have to write them slowly or to great supports to make them readable anywhere, otherwise only the nec reads them good.
I wanted to know which firmware should I use and which is the newer one..thanks!Sorry for my long post!!
To see this screenshot of DvdInfoPro I've made, please click on it with right button, choose save as... and it will work. It doesn't work neither in this way in firefox, it's a problem of unrecognized refer.

Emperor, how did you set bitsetting with 2.02c for +R? When I tried to change the booktype with DVDinfoPro, it says the drive does not support bitsetting.

I have just installed one of these into my fixed bay drive and it is working at Slave, but dont ask me how!

I noticed that i have firmware version 2.22 which i belive is one of the first firmware versions which was released for it.

Which is the latest version i can upgrade it too without damaging the writer in terms of making it permanetly master as it is currently working as slave.

I would like to have the firmware with riplock disabled, RPC1 and better media support.

Thanks In advance.

@ bbasra: The latest version is 2.24 but hasn't been ,yet, fixed by the TDB with RPC1+Riplock features

@Godfather: You should be able to change it, try CDSpeed and if this doesn't work, maybe the firmware autobisets...

@cmatte: Try 6500RPC1.EXE RPC1

monchote, please use the NECDump software to see which media are supported at 8X...unfortunaly, no un-official firmware (at least with speed hacks) are released for the 6500 platform, maybe if many people want them, someone will make them

And does nobody want an unofficial firmware withe this improvements??

* RPC1: Region Free Drive
* Riplock: Removes 6X limit when ripping CSS DVD-Video discs
* ID: Change the ID of an official released firmware
* Media hacks: Change (usually increase) the writing speeds for specific DVD+/-R media

Usually TDB perform the RPC1/Riplock hacks, about the speed/media hacks, there aren't any tools for making it, i hope Quickee to help us here

I expect a couple of weeks before its released if all goes well.
