An anonymous friend, sent us the today's v2.C8 SE TDK 1616n released firmware with the NEC ND-3500AG ID changed, which contains all the following "improvements":

a) Support for TraxData (Ritek D01) and Ricoh DVD+R DL at 4X (official firmware supports only 2.4X, not yet tested!)
b) RPC1 (Region Free)
c) Riplock Removed (7X MAX DVD Ripping with CSS DVD-Video DL and 12X with SL Discs)

The firmware will Auto Booktype settings to DVD-ROM for DVD+R & DVD+R DL respectively (feature embedded)

Small question: Is it really necessary to reboot after a firmware flash in Windows? I can see that the drive already shows the new firmware (in Winflash and in Nero). Will the drive not work untill reboot?

I have testet the new firmware and i find it very nice...

ps: how can i add pics i have no webspace...sorry for offtopic... but i have a nero dvd image an couldnt show it...

the nero speed test shows a high peak at 3,5gb to ~3,8gb 12x an decrease (noname 4x+r)

and ther is no booktype setting fpr dvd+rw but now firmware out there supportet +rw bitsetting...

When I check the burning sped capabilities in Nero 6.6 , without a CD, I see these available speeds:
x1, x2, x2.4, x3, x4, x5, x6 and Maximum. Is the way it's supposed to be without a CD? I have no x16 media to test if this changes with a CD. My current media , Precisa x4 , can only be burned at x2.
Ia this related to this specific firmware, or do all firmwares of the NEC 3500 behave this way?

Its advised to reboot after every flash, even will work without reboot...As for recording speeds, it should show 2X/4X/8X/12X/16X i don't know if the problem comes from Nero

Just one feature missing :(

DVD+R DL reading is limited to 4x MAX, would it be possible to remove it? Like it was done with DVDROM DL CSS disc's?

If this firmware is an Official TDK firmware why it isn't yet released on the TDK Singapore Website?

It's only delay in updating the firmware page or whatever else?

I just flashed with this new SE version (was on Mad Dog TDB 2.F8 before) and it works great.
Ripped a DVD at 12x and its RPC1.

Just one thing - Binflash won't let me access the Booktype settings, is this because it is Auto to DVD-Rom ?

Yes since the firmware auto-bitsets the DVD-ROM booktype, the binflash cannot change this

I spend my whole afternoon trying to decide myself between Pioneer 107 and NEC ND-3500a and I think NEC is better because of the firmware stuff. Now my little question: What is the better firmware TDK or MADDOG???
