Erik Deppe author of nero cd speed recenlty reported that there will soon be enhanced scanning for benq drives at 4x, 6x, 8x. not sure if this applies to all benq drives or just the 8x series, i would think all. he stated that new firmware had to be release to fix some issues with the scanning and a new version of cd speed would have to be released to support such features
Will dvdinfo have this enhanced scanning available for benq drives aswell?

I have sent email to my contact at Benq to obtain required information. Benq has said they want to work more closely with me for their drives in the future. They stated that in their opionion DVDInfoPro was the premium tool on the internet for owners of Benq drives, and I thank them for those comments.

As soon as I have news on this I will let everyone know.

Does that mean they'll bundle it with their software package in their next drive?

hopefully this will happen soon as erik deppe has already stated that a new version of cd speed for this support will be out at the end of the week. he also stated that new firmware will not be needed because there was some sort of workaround. sounds like it should be quite possible to have this feature in dvdinfo sooner than thought as new firmware will not be needed.
I think this should be top priority for next version release

Yes BenQ said that already higher reading speeds for DW1620A can be done with current firmware, however 8xx series needs to be updated, i am wondering how the results would be...

DW800 series is now working with CD DVD Speed v3.40 at higher scanning speeds (4x and 8x). DW1600 series do not yet work with it and according to Erik D it might require an update of fw and CD Speed.

Is there something I can do to help DVD Info Pro testing?

I have BenQ DW1620, Plextor PX712, AOpen DVD1648/AAP, Toshiba SD-M1802, Optorite DD0401 & LiteOn LDW-851S.

regards,
Halcyon

PS This is off-topic, but would it be possible to get support for Sanyo chipsets used by Optorite drives (DD020x, DD040x, DD120x and DD1605)?
