this guy claims that that his drives have a firmware other than b7xx or b5xx. it supposedly has g7c9. the drives are in an external enclosure. anyone know anything about this?

Yes some OEM Benq 1620 come with fw G7*9. Benq now has two versions of its firmware for download, B7*9 and G7*9.
These OEM units wont accept the normal Benq firmware updater because of the B string. One known unit is the I/O Magic drive.

i see...lets see what benq also will say about this, dunno if they are different hardware revision, or something else

I compared the two firmwares and the name string(drive name and firmware name) and 4 bytes located elsewhere in the firmware were the only differences.
