Hi
That's interesting that you've experienced that.
I've just tried the command "sc config imapi start= disabled" IMAPI was turned from automatic to manual. I still get all(5) my DVDRW's show up without any problems.

Hi there,

actually, in my system IMAPI was set to "Manual" even before I used the command "sc config imapi start= disabled".  "Manual" was the default setting.  After I re-enabled it, using "sc config imapi start= demand" (and restarted it), the cd-writer appeared again, and IMAPI was back to the ''manual'' mode.

Hi
I ran command sc config imapi start= demand. My IMAPI was still on manual. So now regardless of command line IMAPI stays set on manual. Drives visible under any setting/command line.

Another Microsoft mystery then.... God only knows why this happens...

But have you noticed any sort of improvement in terms of writing performance, etc., when you disabled this service?  Or no difference at all?  (In which case there would be no use of disabling it anyway).

Hi
Personally no difference.
BTW the only way I can switch (I get no enable/disable stays as manual)on/off is control panel > administrative tools > services > click on IMAPI cd burning > goto start service. Same process to stop except final step goto stop service.

So, it doesn't seem to make any difference in performance/speed/etc, whether the command works or not... So, what's the real use of disabling it anyway?

Hi
I would suggest it's only something to try if experiencing problems, if not leave things as they are.
