This must be why NEC hasn't announced a new drive yet. They probably will not accept a small glance of 16X at the end of the disc. They'll figure it out. This is my end all drive if it has good quality writings (or at least the NEC will be)

So far NEC is already known for having Z-CLV writing strategies... and since the Pioneer/Asus is based on an NEC chipset (I think?), I don't think the burn times will be very different.

According to some info, TY 8X-R can burned to 16X, I will try tomorrow some first burns, checking the performance. What would be interesting is that our project is not 4.36GB but 4.26GB meaning since the drive reaches 16X around the 4.2xGB...All 16X would be equal to 12X, not even slower

But does it matter? With 16x being slower than 12x, who would even bother using it? Now, if this was a true 16x drive using CAV, that might be worth something, but it's not...

Z-CLV is Zone-CLV while P-CAV is Partial CAV, for more info check this review (page1/page2)

Hmm there seems to be some confusion with the transform the old site to the new one, if you find dead links post them in user's feedback, sometimes its possible a link doesn't load and by pressing re-load work, we are still fine tuning the site...

Some explanation, why the 16X speed seems much slower than the 12X. If you look at the 16X Z-CLV graph you will notice that drive reaches 16X aroun 4.2GB. Our project is almost the same capacity, so at 99% dropped from 12X->9X->10X and if our project was full 4.36GB would reach 16X...

ok, I'll explain in a little more detail:

Z-CLV means that the burning is done at a constant speed, but jumps to higher speeds at certain "zones". So writing might start at 4x, and continue at 4x for about 25% of the disc. Then writing will briefly stop, and start again at 6x, and the 6x writing will continue for maybe another 25% of the disc, and then the burning will stop again briefly, and begin again at 8x, which will continue for the rest of the disc. This would be an example of a possible 8x Z-CLV writing strategy.

P-CAV means that the burning speed starts at one speed, and gradually works it's way to a top speed, and will continue at the speed until the end of the disc, *OR* it may reach the top speed by the end of the disc. This writing strategy is faster then using Z-CLV since it does not require the burn process to stop at any point, and usually begins at a faster speed anyways. Unfortunatly, for the moment it seems like DVD-R may not allow for P-CAV writing.... but we will have to see if this can be worked around or not.
