Hi all,

Today we announce that Nic has done it again with the integration of NEC's new bitsetting application (standalone) into a clean all in one solution for an upcoming release of DVDInfoPro. This will allow DVD+R DL type bitsetting to specified -ROM flag booktype. Yay!!!!!!

As follows:

Wonderful news. Release and updates on information concerning it to follow...

No you need to change only one time and it will keep the setting, the NEC tools allows only 3 times change, DVDInfoPro will allow up to 255 times, just in case you need it

No the utility will offer only DVD+R9 booktype setting not for DVD-R/+R unless NEC decides too...

zebra,

why did you limit bitsetting changes to 255? I mean... why did you set a limit?

I know NEC tools sets a limit of 3 changes, but that doesn't mean you also have to set a limit. Am I missing something?

Think about the process going on when something is being saved to hardware -flash region. Its a delicate process.

What happens when you undertake a delicate process too many times?

;). There is your answer!

Correct, anyway do you plan changing the DVD-ROM booktype for DL media more than 255 times? Don't think so

folks,

I would like to clear up reasons behind the 255 changes in NEC bitset window of my dvdinfopro program.

This is not something I have done, but NEC have done. I simply display the internal counter so users are aware. When the bitset command is issued to the drive, the drive itself first decrements the counter if its above zero, and then will only perform the command while its still above zero. Why they chose to do this is unknown, unless it has a limited life cycle similar to other drives such as the Nu.

The NEC bitset tool did not display this info, and users could be caught unaware. This is the reason I chose to display this information. We will look into ways of bypassing or reseting this counter if the need arises.

This function is a set and forget anyway so there should be little need to change it.
