Hi there I'm new to the board and have a few questions.

I've been trying to play the spiderman OST CD on my Sony Discman D-EJ01 but it simply doesn't work. I assume this something to do with the anti-write protection on the CD. Why its bothering my particular discman and not my brothers (D-EJ915), I have no idea. It also won't play on CD-ROMs or writers. Does anyone know of a peice of software which can be used to make a standard CD ROM/writer recongnise the CD. Then write it in Cd audio format without the protection mechanism so that my discman and PC can read it?

Thanks

Welcome!

I don't know about that CD, but it could possibly be because of that...

Is your CD Walkman the MP3 one, silver with a green light-up remote - top of the range?!! (i.e. around $500AUD) Well if so, I'm getting one soon and I'll be able to obtain that CD and see if it does the same .

Yes that is possible, check the CD and see if it says "Sony DADC" right on the hub of it. Also check the case for "Midbar" and "will not play on PC/Mac" text.

What CD-RW/DVD/CD-ROM's do you have [?]

You will most likely need CloneCD or EAC software depending on what recorder/readers you have

Nah, mines a few years old now. Its the first sony jog-proof CD player with a slot in Cd mechanism, magnesium casing and a red/orange LCD remote.

The CD does say it will not play on PC/Macs but whynis it causing this discman grief??

My PC is home-made from a friend of mine, who is suprised the CD didn't work. so what CD burner do you recommend for a student on a budget?

Thanks

Well what burner do you have now [?]

For audio protections, Plextor CD-RW's are best, but they can be expensive... I recommend now the PX-W4012A (40/12/40) or the new PX-W4824A (48/24/48) Maybe even a Yamaha CRW-F1 if it is cheaper where you live, they are good with audio protections too.

It's probably a protection called "Key2Audio" by Sony itself... Could also be one of the Cactus Data Shield protections, thats why I asked you to look for Sony DADC logo in the CD near the hole...

It isn't playing on your PC because it's designed not to, to prevent illegall (and consequently, 'legal' backups...).

But with the drives and software I mentioned previously, this can be overcame! [^]

I don't have a burner yet which is why I asked for recommendations. I live in London, UK so anyone who lives nearby who can give me advice, is most welcome to do so.

The CD doesn't have DADC logo...the only thing that looks odd is a "sacem" logo? don't know if that helps.

Hi Again sarfraz
Your Plextor is the PX-W4012A and the best thing to do is read John's review at :-
http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Articles/Specific.asp?ArticleHeadline=PleXWriter+PX%2DW4012A+CD%2DRW&Series=0
And that should tell you all you want to know Although they are Bringing a new 48x out any day now so it may pay you to see the review on this Model first which will be out quite Soon !!!
Personally I would go for the Yamaha CRW-F1 over the Plextor 40x but that is only me !!!
I hope this Helps !!!

Well at the end of the, I'm looking for a good burner with the addition of being able to burn this blasted spiderman CD in a audioCD format without its protection software. I simply want a back-up which will run on anything. CD-text capability would also be nice.

Well if that is your soul intent (main one anyway) I suggest you wait for the review of the PX-W4824A soon, or buy a Plex 40X as they both can be used with PlexTools, which atm, is the best audio extraction sofware avaliable (but only works correct in Plextor drives). It also has the option (as has CCD) to only copy the first session, hence, not copy the protection data onto your copy so it will play anywhere
