Hello guys:
I was wondering if there's a way to change my CDRW's current firmware to the original and not the "rebadged" one.(maybe some patch out there?).
Anyways:

I have a Creative CDRW-8438E originally a
Samsung SW-208F .

I'd appreciate any help. thank you

I don't know how to change/update the firmware, but I just ditched that drive myself today after nearly 2 yrs of the doorstop occupying one of my drivebays. better to replace it, as Creative will be no help at all with any probs you have. The drive was originally a rebadged Plextor, then Creative did the old switcheroo and started selling them in the same 8432 boxes but with 8433, 8435, and 8438 junky cheapo drives in them, coupled with no support. personally I would say, dump the drive and never buy a Creative product again!

Guys, I completely agree not to buy ANY Creative product again. But here, I still have that Creative 8438E, which costed me a monthly salary (you know an average salary in our country is $100 per month). So, I cannot just throw it through the window. On the other hand I have all kind of problems: the drive does not recognize most new 700MB medias, doe not recognize 700MB CDRW disks, etc. Is there any way you could help?
