I am trying to find a way to copy some home videos, edit them and write it to CD so that I can watch it on my PS2 (mpg, vcd whatever) I've got the video recorded and now I just have to find a workable format and way of burning. I don't seem to be having any luck. Is this a possible venture or am I just chasing after the impossible. Any advice is very welcome.

Thanks
Michael

First off, PS2 will not play *ANY* CD-R (except audio) without some sort of modification (chip etc...).

Secondly PS2 uses some sort of customised MPEG-2 format, which is not avalible without a license.

However if you have a good chipped PS2 (Messiah chip), and download special VCD/SVCD players from "places" on the net, I'm shure you can get a VCD/MP3 CD to work on it.

It will take much research, time and patience and $$$ even.

As you may have guessed, Sony obviously didn't want these sort of things readable in the console, and as such, did everything to prevent it .

Sony PS2 can only play DVDs and that's it.

Even if you have a chipped console, you still can't play (S)VCD's. There is no mp3/vcd player anywhere on the internet or in the world.

There are rumours that people have ported the vcd hardware player on the Playstation/PSOne to PS2, but this is not true.

PS2 can play CD-R's (music) too, what are you on??

And yes there IS a MP3 player for the PS2, I have seen it. It's by PaRaDoX group.

Also there are SVCD/VCD players also, by "underground" groups.

Sony PS2 consoles chipped with the "Messiah" mod, all of the above is possible They are software decoders/players of course, not external plug-ins...

I suggest you know what you're talking about before making ignorant posts

No hard feelings, I agree it is alot of trouble but for some, it is well worth it.

I just need to find a good place locally, to get my PS2 chipped with a Messiah!

Clint try www.ozchips.com, they have Messiah (which they call Ozdirect), if your from Sydney you can get it installed aswell. Austech.info also has a "Directory" of suppliers and installer around Australia. If you have or know someone with good soldering skills then just get nice install pix from china-messiah.com

Laffin Assassin, well you can have your point, I have mine.

Thanks alot for the link, I'm about 3-4hrs from Sydney and I'll will check it out!

It appears their on holidays and closed until September so I will have to wait.

Thanks alot, really appreciate the info .

I'll have to see if my electrician friend can manage it!!

BTW, do you know if SCPH-30002R PS2's are on of the "tricky" ones to solder

    Thanks Laffin, close!!

I found the info I needed here (well for the most part...)

Turns out I have a V5 or V6 console, and the only way to tell if you have a V5 or V6 (according to that site) is to disassemble the console on look for a particular socket in the expansion slot. I prefer not to open it yet as I don't want my warrenty void!!! (yet )

Thanks anyway! Least I've got something to go by now.
