I have a PCRW804 as well. It has also died..in less than a year. It spins up...or attempts to...but continues to search and never finds the disc. I tried to flash it...to no avail. I'm not sure what the hell is wrong with this thing. I'm thinking about sticking it underneath the tires of a 16 wheeler. But before I do that, anyone else ahve any suggestions as to what can be the problem. And assassin, if you can send me that 249k file..I'd appreciate it very much. I'm not sure what the hell ASPI is...or if that is my problem...but, I might as well try that fix. Thanks a lot. really.

Also...on fresh restart, the pcrw804 doesn't spin up like my other cd rom. When I go to my computer...cdrw is recognized by windows but is never ready. The only thing I can do is eject, but when the tray slides back in to the drive, it keeps flashing....flashing..then locks up my computer and forces me to power off...or just plain blue screens. I am running Windows 98 SE, with a 500 celeron...drive worked fine up until about a month ago. On Direct Cd, it recognizes the drive as well...but says the device is "not ready." So far, I have tried flashing it...which did not complete successfully. I have also downloaded your 249k fix. The checker said I did not have an adaptec controller installed correctly. I went to adaptecs site and downloaded the 4.71 drivers...using their checker aspi was installed correctly..ran yours again, and it said..not properly installed. Drive remains KIA.

I miss my burner. It didnt make too many coasters in its run. But now, I wanna send it to hell. HELP ME!

The patch I have got is a lot easier to use and it Does work on any version of Windows including XP And after you have applied the patch you can upgrade your ASPI with Adaptech's own Aspi anytime if you need to.!!! It has already helped loads of other Philips users and it may help you look at :-

And make your own mind up and it does work for other brands of CD Writers with the same problem !!!
But as I say please post a request in this thread.
All you have to do is unzip it into a folder on your hard-drive and follow the Instructions in a txt file in the folder and it should sort your ASPI problems out!!!

Anyone have any suggestions before I scrap this drive? Or should I just purchase a new one? Samsung? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. My Posts are a few above this one as to what my problems are.

I am having problems with my phillips cd-rw. It reads on my computer that everything is fine but as soon as I put anything in it to read the burner freezes and my computer crashes. It had been working for a year before this just fine. I am using roxio easy cd creator 5.

If you could get me on track that would be great!!! thanks

I moved my pcrw804 from a 98 to an xp and now it wont burn cds correctly. For example, on audio cds it will say it has burned 4% of the first track and move extremely slowly (only a few bytes a minute) then it will say the cd is full and the cd has been burnt fully (outer ring) but the cd does not work at all. any idea why this would be? Laffin Assassin, could you send your 249k file to me? Thanks in advance.
