My philips pcrw804 stopped working last night. I had this problem once before, about 2 years ago, and it suddenly started working again after I took it out and put it back in. It doesn't recognize that theres a disk in. It just keeps spinning with the light on and eventually gives up. I can usually eject the disk after a while. If your file will help, please send it to me. Otherwise, anything else I can do?

Yes i am getting a fatal error: atpi send error when trying to flash

the reason I am wanting to update the firm ware is that it is not reading my Memorex CD-RWs right and maybe this could fix it....if anyone knows another way to fix this please email me.

thanks

Hi all,

I had the same fatal error: atpi send error when trying to flash the firmware.

But finally it worked!!!!
I flashed it on a Win98 system!
I don't know why but it really works!

Good luck!

Pride, that's funny I was going to do the same thing. I was thinking that if my cd-r works on my other comp, but not this one. It must be either the OS or Motherboard. So let me flash it and see what will happen. Now, this gives me even more assurance that i was on the right track.

Oh, My problem....

Pcrw804 Would not even respond in anyway when PC started. Only sometimes did it appear in the BIOS detection and it would hardly show in My computer all this happened in XP. But works perfectly fine in windows 98Se, but i don't want it on that system.

Hi
Iam new to this forum. But Iam also facing a similar problem with my PCRW804 (Win Me and Adaptec DirectCD). The drive just doesnt read any of my CDs now and was working ok until last week. And when I insert a CD now, it just spins it so fast and locks up both the drive and the system itself:(. I have to reboot to unlock it and when I open the drive to remove the CD, it comes out at such a speed that Im scared that it might shatter sometime! I tried to uninstall and re-install the driver, but it doenst work. I have downloaded the flashtool for updating the firmware, but it doesnt work. Iam not sure whether its a problem with ASPI. Please help somebody! My email is gayusri@msn.com. Thanks.

I finally downloaded the Flashtool 3.1 from one of ur postings and could update the firmware to 2.5. But I still have the same problem with my drive:(. It just spins the disc fast and locks itself up and the PC. Please let me know if anybody knows how to resolve this issue. Thanks.
