One thing I wouldn't do is flash the TDK into Lite-on. When I get the CDR-F1 how the hell will I sell it if they know it is a Lite-on I will probably have to pay someone to take it.

Ok way around that:

1.) Grap MTKFlash v1.48 and read the TDK firmware with it. To do that type: MTKFLASH "x" R /B /M filename.bin

Where "x" is where the drive is on your MB.

2.) Save the binary file you just read on a disk of some sort.

3.) Flash the TDK/Lite-On to a Lite-On binary (e-mail me if you need Lite-On 40125S/W .bin firmware) To do that type: MTKFLASH "x" W /B filename.bin

Where "x" is where the drive is on your MB.

4.) DONE!!

5.) When you want to sell it, just flash back the TDK binary f/w you read and bobs ya uncle back to TDK

*Note: All MTKFLASH must be done under REAL DOS with "no CD-ROM drivers loaded". Easiest way to read/flash .bin's is to use a floppy disk

Hi John
Yes I have and I am quite impressed with it at the moment ! And it is now retailing at £58 at a local Store one of my friends owns. I have not done a full test on it yet but so far it looks like it is well worth the price !

John said there were quite a number of probs with his one, if I remember correctly.

So it's Z-CLV and doesn't support writing of regular bit patterns

Still for the money, you can't go past them and Lite-On for a budget high-speed recorder. It should also be an excellent reader .

Hi Clint
You Say " John said there were quite a number of probs with his one, if I remember correctly."

I haven't come across any yet but if I do I will let you know ! But I have flashed it with the new 1.07 firmware so as we both know that could be the difference !

You Say " So it's Z-CLV and doesn't support writing of regular bit patterns ?"
Yes it is Z-CLV but acording to Clone CD supported drives list it shows one sheep in Correct EFM-Encoding so that shows that the Drive writes regular bit patterns almost correctly. I have tried it on Safedisk 2 and no problem with or without AWS I will try it on others on Tuesday and let you know.

You Say " Still for the money, you can't go past them and Lite-On for a budget high-speed recorder. It should also be an excellent reader."
At the price I got it at it was dead right !

Try the SD2 copy in a Toshiba CD/DVD-ROM or Sony CD-ROM and see if it works. If it works (without AWS enabled), it in fact does write regular bit battern *almost* correctly. If not, it cannot write RBP correctly. If you have a SD2 v2.51.021+ it won't work without AWS enabled, or can you surprise me
