Since I have installed Win XP, I can't read or burn CDs with my burner (PCRW 804). I tried to install a new firware, but there is a message which tells that I have to install Adaptec's Aspi. I installed Aspi 4.71 but it doesn't work yet. What can I do? What's about ASPI FIX? Can it help me to solve my problems?

PLEASE HELP
Sorry for my poor English

Remove the ASPI 4.71, it has ALOT of errors with WinXP. A little research would have lead you to that conclusion.

Anyway, after you remove it, download and install this ASPI 4.60 from me here:

LAFFIN......HELP!
I am sure the post is somewhere, I just don't have the eyes to read thru everything....

I am having the same "ASPI Send Error" problem as everyone else. I DL'd the 2.6 ASPI files, followed the .txt file to T, and they installed correctly. Went to run the flash tool and, of course, got the lovely "ASPI Send Error" message. Any suggestions for what I should do, OTHER than going out a getting a new burner? That plan is in the works, but if this one can be fixed in the mean time, that would be preferable.

Hi wsuthewoodsbch
One thing that does call problems sometimes is Antivirus programs running when you flash a Drive !!!
So I suggest if you are running any turn them off and try to flash it again and see if that makes any Difference !!!
But don't forget to turn it on again after you have done !!!
I hope this Helps !!!

I am using Windows XP, and have been for a while now.
Have two HDs, one with 60gb, the other with 30gb.
I have a DVD burner and then two Virtual drives, both holding game images. I have had the same setup for months now, all the while the CD burner worked. Then one day it chose to stop I guess.

All drives, are connected with IDE cables.
I have 512mb DDR-Ram

When I double click the drive in My Computer, the message "Windows cannot read from this disk. The disk might be corrupted, or it could be using a format that is not compatible with Windows."

No hardware changes in the past three months, all the while the CD burner was stable.
THANKS for all of the help you are providing!!!!

I cannot find the 249k file for the philips 804 burner. I am running xp, xp sees the drive but it has no idea that there is a disk in it. I installed the flash tool, adeptec aspi (4.60) and it still will not work. Could you please send me the 249k file. Thanks

I installed the 249Kb file and a recent fireware Philips (2.5) but my burner can't read CDs. In fact, when I insert a CD, the light "DISC IN" flashes and then it switches off. When I try to open a CD with the explorator, I can't see the content (such as if it was blank).
Is my burner dead???

Hi Laffin Assasin

I know you probably sick and tired of having everyone repeat the same thing about their Philips CDD4801 and about that patch, but may I please have the patch emailed to me also? I would really appericate it. Thank you for your time. *gives big hug to LA in advance*

Thanks Dragon Goddess. [:X]

Thanks a bunch Mp3Mogul. The computer recognizes it but it says it's a cd-rom and not a cdr/rw drive. I am running Windows XP on a 5500 compaq presario. The original os was ME, but I upgraded to XP. So what can I do to have the comp recognize the Philips as a cdr/rw drive? Thanks for the help.
