I need advise on transfering lp's and cassettes to cd. Your comments are appredciated.

Jeff, You'll need a sound card with a line-in, I use the creative labs Audigy MP3+ card, and you'll need some software that supports line in recording. For this I use Music Match. It does a pretty good job and I've converted my entire LP collection to disc now. It's a slow process because you're recording at 1x but it's well worth it in the long run.
