Hi there,

I have Nero 5.5.8.0 and a Yamaha CRW2200E drive.

On recording (generally MP3 files) with verify, I invariably get a verify failure with a number of files being 'inaccessible'. The error reported for each inaccessible file in the log is along the lines of

18:17:26 #22 SCSI -1024 File Cdrdrv.cpp, Line 1209
SCSI Exec, HA 0, TA 0, LUN 0, buffer 0x02B82E50
Status: 0x04 (0x01, SCSI_ERR)
HA-Status 0x00 (0x00, OK)
TA-Status 0x02 (0x01, SCSI_TASTATUS_CHKCOND)
Sense Key: 0x04 (KEY_HARDWARE_ERROR)
Sense Code: 0x08
Sense Qual: 0x03
CDB Data: 0x28 0x00 0x00 0x00 0xC8 0x3E 0x00 0x00 0x10 0x00 0x00 0x00
Sense Data: 0x70 0x00 0x04 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x0A
0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x08 0x03

18:17:26 #23 VERIFYERR 6 File UDFCompilationImpl.cpp, Line 5318
Read error on CD file
track 03.mp3

The track will refuse to play, or will play part way through in Media Player in that drive. However, the same tracks appear to play OK in another drive or a standalone MP3 player.

My question is this:

I suspect that this is a faulty drive - it can burn fine but can't read properly. Could somebody with more Nero knowledge than I tell me whether the error message from Nero bears this theory out?

Thanks very much in advance,

Andy

If this occurs on only this one drive, and all other drives have no trouble playing the CD you created, then I would say you have a 90% chance of being correct in your assumption that the drive needs service. I assume you have tried with more than one brand of media to rule media out as the cause?

Regards,

Craig

Thanks for your input Craig,

Yes I did try different media and speeds to make sure that wasn't the problem. It was the same with both CD-R and CD-RW. Should have mentioned this earlier.

I have since replaced the drive with a Plextor W4012TA, and can happily write to the same 24x media at 40x with no verify errors whatsoever.

A happy solution.

The Yamaha drive is in the process of being replaced under warranty, after which the new one will find it's way to eBay, since I'm delighted with the Plextor.

Thanks again

Andy
