HI,

I just joined the forum & I want to buy either Yamaha3200E or Plextor 24X10X40 Cd-RW and need help from some of you kind souls having experience guide me as to which one is more reliable & which one will be able to back up my hard drive, & back up some of my software on cds.

I have never used a cd writer and I don't know the abc of it.

I have used VCR"s which will copy & back up any tape.Is there a difference in CD-RW?

Which is the best software?

What is Firmware & does it come with writer or I have to buy it seperately?

Pretty dumb questions but can't do without it so please open your hearts.

Would really appreciate any help.

michael I personally like the yamaha 3200E VK, as I own one. I also have a Liteon 24102B,Firmware comes installed on the Flash Rom on the Writer and this can be Updated if new features come out to Improve the Writer,or for more reliablablity.. The best software that you can have is CloneCD 3.3.4.1. Use this to copy games and Full music Cd's ect.It does a 1 to 1 Copy. And for data and every thing else Nero 5.5.7.2. Nero also Supports Audio Master Recording. Which yamaha has.There does not seam to be much difference in CD-RW media. Sometimes the cheap ones do just as good as job as the Expensive ones, at half the cost.But if you have your heart set on a Plextor you would not go wrong either.But in the End it realy comes Down to the best price. They all have there good Points.
I don't know any thing about VCR tape backup, but I would Expect the CD-RW is Quicker any way.

My Plex2410 hasn't given me any problems so far. I like to use reliable equipment in my rigs and from what I hear, not too many complaints with Plextor. If they have problems they are pretty good about the firmware updates.
