i must first say that i am impressed with this site and it's information content, great work, please keep it up.
i am searching for an external (USB) CD-RW single device for writing and reading. the main usage will be for PS1 backups, so it needs to have the ability to read and write subchannel data at 96 bytes (instead of 16)and DAO. ideally i plan to use it with clonecd so i can take advantage of the RAW copying.
i am running a laptop so an external device seems to be my only option.

Plextor CD-R PX-W2410TU USB 2 CD-RW.
All writers are limited to 4/4/6 speeds if used in normal USB 1.1
You can purchase a USB 2 adapter that plugs into USB 1.1's hub to take advantage of the 24/10/40 speeds.
If this Plextor model is anything like its brother (PX-W2410TA) it will read/write every copy protection audio and data. More than enough for PSX Libcrypt copying. (RAW DAO-96 + Correct EFM encoding of regular bit patterns <SD2>)

More info check these:
http://www.plextor.be/english/products/pxw241040u.html
http://www.plextor.com/english/products/24_10_40u.html

Either apply to where you live. eg .be = Europe and .com = U.S.
(Warranty 2 years or not)
But both are the same drive.

One negative; I'd expect it to be quite pricey though. You'd better have a few $$$ to spare
