I recently tried the Maxell CD-R 74XL. They worked fine on audio and with multi-session data.

However, when I tried disk-at-once or just finalizing a data disk, I made 8 lovely gold coloured coasters.

I've now got some Nashua (not a brand I know) that are working well for all purposes. Has anyone got any experience with these?

I don't think that it has to do with the media.
The maxells are a good media made from Ricoh Company.
I dunno about the Nashuas

Actually what's wtitten on the label is not the point.
Use a program like CDR Identifier or Click 'N' Burn to see the CDR's
Manufacturer.

Prefer CDR's made from Taiyo Yuden, Ricoh, Sony, Mitsui, Mitsubishi Chemicals or Prodisc, Plasmon Media for cheap ones.
Avoid CDR's made form CMC Media, Multi Machinery, Ritek, Auva, and CD's that "Disk ID is not allowed"
