I just ripped my 300 CD collection into WAV files on a 500 GB partition on my PC's HDD using WMP. I noticed some CD's had noise on them that is not heard when played on a CD player. I did some research and found out that despite the fact that the drive supports C2 my LG4163B drive has mediocre error correction. Also, WMP didn't give me any obvious options for a more secure rip.

I intend to use EAC or dbpoweramp or CDex.

Which optical drive should I look for these days for the best CD ripping?

thanks in advance for any info,

:)

P.S. While we're at it...What about the best ripping software? Is EAC still good enough these days or should I pony up for dbPoweramp? What about CDex?

i used sometimes ago CDex on Asus1648 with good results; also for error correction Samsung drives seems ok.

I have a Samung SE-S084C which I use on occasion with my XP Laptop. Though I've read good reviews, my ripping speed is extremely slow (20+ minutes to rip 1 audio cut). It's very slow on the laptop, so I tried it on my Win7 work PC and I get the same results...very very slow. Its' stated speeds are 8X read with a 2MB buffer, but 20+ minutes for a song is crazy! Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!
