Hello, everyone!

Yes, I realize there's another thread on this burner asking the same question, but please read on...

Well, I bit on a 9-bucks-after-rebate deal and am looking at one of these sitting in a box as a backup drive. But I was curious as to who the OEM is? Usually, the Khypermedias are rebadged BenQ's, but this one doesn't appear to be. The box shows what appears to be a BenQ drive, but the one I got is slightly different. It doesn't have the "seamless link" logo on the drive tray and has a slightly different front bezel.

I haven't installed it, so I can't see what Device Manager says about it.

The drive doesn't say where it was made (the box says China, but the box also shows a different drive, too!), but here are some clues:

S/N label says:
Manufactured 11/2003
Factory Code 9
SB013B0xxxxx

There's no FCC ID, they just claim type acceptance.

There's also a small white sticker right next to the power connector that says: D03H015474

Verdict, anyone?

Thanks for the info. I had the same question. I bought 3 khypermedia drives and 2 were benQ and the other was unknown. But with your info, I know now. Thanks.

Actually the Khypermedia KCHRW522452
seems to be 4 different vendors.

Serial number can start with :
99B1L
99B0S
99B2W
SB

The SB drive (which I have) is a CIS Arrgo 52X CD-RW

Review at http://www.cdrlabs.com/reviews/index.php?reviewid=190

Matches my drive exactly, physically. MediaTek chipset.

Deconstructing based only on the firmware versions I conclude the Kypermedia model KCHRW522452 has 4 possible OEM drives

Serial # starts with - OEM Model (firmware version)

99B1L - BENQ 5224W (firmware F.xZ)
99B0S - BENQ 5224P (firmware K.xC)
99B2W - BENQ 5232W (firmware Y.xS)
SB - CIS Arrgo 52X CD-RW (firmware CIS52)

So now you know.

This -> 99B0S - BENQ 5224P (firmware K.xC)
might also be a Liteon drive...

If you download the KUC firmware and try to run it,
it pops up with a Liteon flasher...

I went and bought one too... WA state here...

I got the one that was the 99B2W serial #,
so I guess I lucked out and got a 5232 model... sweet.

YESS! Me too: I won the lottery.
So... with the DW1620 I bought to replace the BDV 212b,
which the MTBF fairies claimed early (< 5000 Hrs!), I'm
nice 'n happy (and cheap).
