That wasn't a resolution to the problem. HOWEVER - I uninstalled the REALTEK device using the following HP instructions. I got as far as no 8 and shutdown the PC. When I re-started it, IT WAS CURED ! NO MORE CHIPMONKS ! - In the Microsoft Windows XP operating system, you must be logged on as an administrator to install or uninstall a device driver.
- Click Start on the taskbar.
- Right-click My Computer.
- Click Properties, and then select the Hardware tab.
- Click the Device Manager button to display a list of hardware device categories.
- Click the + (plus) next to the category of the problem device to show all installed devices.
- Right-click the device to be uninstalled.
- Click Uninstall, and then click OK. Repeat, if needed, to remove all listings of the device.
- A message appears telling you to restart the computer. Click Yes. If this message does not appear, click Start, select Turn Off Computer, and then click Restart. You may need to restart the PC twice. If the driver file is not corrupted, the information is restored correctly, and the device should work.
- After your PC restarts, open Device Manager to see that the device is listed. If it is not, you may need to reinstall it manually with the Add New Hardware Wizard in the System Properties window.
