Needed, firmware for Kenwood 72x CDR (model UCR-421), version 226.

It appears that this drive does not work properly on conventional IDE controllers, and it is my hope that upgrading the firmware will resolve this issue. However, since kenwoodtech is no longer available, I am calling on this community in the hopes that someone has cached this firmware update. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

TIA,
BD

Dramsey,

Glad that you have "found" what you were searching for. However, please be careful, as I have read ALOT of user posts regarding this firmware, and it seems, that MOST of them have had problems with it as well.

MP3Mogul,
Thanks for the heads up. Any idea which firmware revison works the best with this drive, and where someone might acquire said firmware revision? Version 226 did resolve my UDMA controller detection issue (72x drive was not being detected properly @ POST), however I am still experiencing poor "read" performance on conventional (ATA100+) IDE controllers with this drive, while Panasonic DVD and Aopen CD/R/RW drives work fine on the same ATA100+ controllers....

I really have no idea. It is a shame that Kenwood's Tech dept has since closed down.

Kenwoods' tech department closed down because most of their drives died within 6 months of purchasing! [:I] These things have the absolute WORST reputation for lifespan of any name... even worse then creative! [B)]

Well I was trying not to mention the "quality" of the Kenwood.

Most Creative's were Plextor and LiteON OEMs... only they always seemed to buy the worst of both kinds, EVERYTIME! they must have only bought referbished models or something?

Creative have never bought any refurbished models the big problem with their Writers was that they used their own firmware and not the Manufactures and they never got it right !!!

While their firmwares may indeed cause problems, I don't believe that they are responsible for all the creative burners that just outright died. But then again, maybe if their firmwares are REALLY bad it could cause a drive to fail prematurly [:I]
