Hi,

I have this demo Cd of Laserlock Marathon. They says that you cannot make a copy of this CD whatsoever. I also tried to make a copy of this cd using CloneCD, but failed. I mean, I was able to make the image and create a copy of the cd, but when i ran the demo exe on the cd, it asked me to insert the original cd in the ROM.

Was anybody able to make a copy of this cd, or is there any way out.

TIA.

Samir

Strange problem.
It is usually relatively easy, although time-consuming, to copy a laserlock disc.
I hope jimmys, or some moderator might have some suggestion on this...

Although i don't own the specific game you can make a valid image of a laserlock disc with a few steps using the alcohol 120% software.
You can download it from software section
On the first step you must make an image of the game to your hard disk using the image making wizard and then to burn that image using the image burning wizard.
On both tasks don't forget to set laserlock as a datatype in alcohol. The datatype option can be found on the left corner of the the new window each time you start a wizard

(After accidentally clicking "Reset Fields" instead of "Post New Reply", I'm not writing all that again!)

Jimmys... It's not a game CD with old Laserlock as protection.
It's CD demonstrating Laserlock Marathon protection.
Check http://www.cdrinfo.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=7683

Oh, samcool... from where you did get that CD?

Hi Cooler,

Thanx for the reply,

I got this CD from a friend of mine. Infact, he got this Demo Cd from Laserlock. He asked them for a Demo Cd and they sent him two. On the Cd cover, LaserLock MARATHON is written and the Release Date is Auguest 2003. I can see a thin ring on the outer edge of the Cd. I guess this is the Physical Mark on this Cd.

One more thing. I tried to make and burn the Image of this Cd using Alchohol 120% keeping the datatype as Laserlock, but failed again.

I think, this is the latest version they have released. I will try to send a scanned image of this cd.

Thanx.

Based on the new (?) laselock copy protection (name: marathon) it seems it will take an enormous ammount of time to copy such a disc.

I do not know if this company has actually come out with anything realy new into the copy-protection arena. Just injecting pre-fabricated L3 errors into the normal 2352 bytes sector, is not anything new.

By restricting the Read-Retry-Error-Count setting on the latest drives, or just by reading RAW (L3 errors pass by undetectable) and then using a software algorithm for locating the suspect sectors with the fictitious erros is something a bunch of today's programs are capable of easily overcoming.

We will post more details for this protection in the next couple of days. Ionian is the responsible person for this.

Currently there are only samples circulating.

We hope to have more details on this (and other copy potections) in out main web site in a couple of weeks. (Please note, this depends much on the expressed intentions of persons not actively controlled by us...)

Hi,

This protection seems real tough. Still no one is able to bypass this protection. I am still searching around for the solution to bypass protection.

The protection is effective through physical aspects of the CD. Therefore you cannot simply download it. Doing so will not allow you to test the protection yourself. You would need to contact the makers of Laserlock and ask for that a demo-cd be sent to you.
