Referring to myself of course.  After re-reading the thread, I realized my Sony COULD be writing at 10X, but the best speed I have available to me in Nero is 4X.  Which of course is because of the 4X media I am using.

Since Memorex is stinky doo-doo, the Memorex 12X may not have been a fair test of the 4X "high" media you refer to.  And the Sony is 4X "low", which may be too slow for even my Sony (10X) burner.  So slowly I figured out that your overall point was to go out and buy some Verbatim @8X CD-RW's and maybe they will run reliably.  (And faster than the Sony 4X as well.)

I'm dumb maybe, but at least I'm slow to learn.

Thanks for the advice.  I'll give up on Wal-Mart as the sole supplier for my electronics needs.
