Hi all,
I did a backup burn of a pc game with cdclone which works fine on desktop computer, but when i put the disk in my laptop a error occurs.
I uninstalled the original game from the laptop and tried to reinstall using the backup copy, but about 3% in it asked for the disk with data cab3 files to be inserted. There is no other disk and I don't know were to direct the path to?
This is obviously the cause of the problem on the laptop but how come it works on the desktop?
Why is the copy not exact copy, and if it is, has anyone any idea why this would occur on laptop but not on desktop?

Thanx

Hello
It sounds to me like a problem of your laptop pc
The installation of the game has nothing to do with the protection of the disc.
The fact that a cab file cannot be copied during the installation means that either your laptot cdrom is not able to read the specific file or the cd has not being succesful written.
on your post you are saying that you cannot locate the cab file
Can you do a search on both the original and the back game and reply if the cab file exists on the cd?

The original and the backup copy both look the same, and the original installs and loads with no probs onto the laptop.
The copy loads, 3% then asks for "disk0 to load cab3data".
If I put the copy disk in, after the original has been used to install, and try to load the game, I get the error, "**********(game) caused an invalid page fault in module~df394.tmp at... then numbers then a list of registers."
I realize that the cd might not be a succesful copy, but don't know why or where the fault lies?

Thanx

Just been cheching...can anyone tell me if the problem could be that the computer used to burn uses realone player, and also where the laptop uses paint for bitmaps etc... the computer used to burn uses a different bitmap veiwer.
Would this make the original disk be copied using the audio file format on the burn computer, and the bitmaps on the disk be copied to the disk using the burn computers setting (ie, not paint)?

Don't know if thats how it works or if that is my problem, but it would explain why the original can be loaded into the 2 computers and work fine but the copy won't work on the laptop but does on the desktop.

Thanx

I think this is a normal copy behavior as long as it concerns the newer protections.
Is your laptop's drive also a burner?
It might well be the case of a corrupted installation. YOu need to somehow remove the debris from the system and perform a clean installation. To tedius a task, you should find out yourself what parts of the registry is being modified during installation on a clean system and then try to remove the suspect entries from the laptop.

The laptop dosn't have a burner, and I have no idea how to check the registry for modifications.
Clean install of what?
The program/game?
I agree the laptop is the problem but don't have the knowledge to mess around in the registry.
I don't understand, the copy works on the desktop but won't work on the laptop. The original works on both laptop and desktop!
So I've got a copy that works on desktop made with CDClone, Alcohol program freezes my computer, does anyone know of another program that will do an exact copy of a protected disk, without probs? If so where can I get a trial prog that will copy?
