How are platinum discs?
Are there any good silver discs?

Best discs for Lite-ON drives based on my own testing are Taiyo Yuden, RiTEK, and Prodisc.

How have you tested these discs?
I have noticed that some media is better for hifi cd-players, it takes more time when changing tracks on some.
How about maxell?

I do my testing using K-Probe, CD Doctor, Q-Check, and Nero CD Speed.

the first 2 only work on LiteON (and sometimes sanyo) drives. Q-Check only works on the Plextor Premium, and CD Speed appears to only be able to test C1 errors on LiteON drives.

Which manufacturers use Taiyo Yuden?

And where can I download K-Probe?

You may be looking for the Diamond CD-R's. I can't really recommend them, because they are more expensive than an ordinary CD-R. You should probably stick to Taiyo Yuden cyanine or RiTEK phthalocyanine CD-R's.

FYI, the best RiTEK discs compare pretty well to Taiyo Yuden in terms of error rates.

It's the phthalocyanine riteks ive got. There not as silver as factory pressed disc though, a bit greener.

The only maker of silver diamond discs that I know of is Prodisc. They are okay, but not usually as good quality as Ritek or Taiyo Yuden.

Okay, I lied, I know another manufacturer.... DST also makes silver diamond CD-Rs, but STAY AWAY from them! [:I]

I use Memorex media and it works great with my Lite-On.

Memorex is NOT a safe media brand. Why? because they use media made by so many different manufacturers that you NEVER know what you are getting until you buy it! The only way of knowing for sure is if it says made in Japan on the box, and then you know it's Taiyo Yuden, and a safe buy. Otherwise it could be DST, CMC, Ritek, Prodisc, or any number of other manufacturers, most of which are not very good! I would suggest running nero CD Speed and using the disc info option to find out who really makes your discs... you may be shocked to see just how many different CD-R types you really have (or maybe not).

Disc Info in my Nero CD Speed only says "-" on every single line. What's the problem?

Whatif the brand is DST, CMC, Ritek or Prodisc? Please explain why these brands are not as good as Taiyo Yuden.

Are you running CloneCD or Alcohol 120%? they both have options to hide the media manufacturer.
