I did, but no difference. So I went back and redid the flash on the firmware. When I rebooted it made an awful racket, but after I finished
it seems to be okay. I have a corrupted file however, it said to flash v15 b or v15c. I did and it tried opening with a greeting card program I have. I hope it sticks. I am holding my breath

Want to say thank you to both you and MP3Mogul. I really appreciate your patience and help! Have been to other forums where I was made to feel one step below an imbecile.

Demobbed,

You "upgraded" from a previous version of Windows? This usually while "sounds good" causes problems. Is it possible for you to do a "clean install" of WinXP?

Just to keep you updated. I have finally decided to yank the CDD4801. The only thing it will do now is glow when ever I touch it. Thinking of replacing with a CDRW-R/DVD-R. Thinking of a Sony, but not sure. Going to check out reviews and test first.
