I just received my Lite-On LTR-24102B, Firmware Revision 5S07. I've only tried to back up one protected title so far using Clone CD 3091, (Sim's House Party). The first try, Clone CD defaulted to hardware under fast error skip and things would not move while reading. (It may have been going incredibly slow but I didn't wait around to see as the drive just kept spinning up and down and the progress bar was not progressing) The second time I set fast error skip to software and everything went fine. (I've never tried setting it to none) While reading through the forums, I see people post on whether to select fast error skip or not, but what about the subsettings??? (Hardware, Software, or None!!)

Any information on this is greatly appreciated.

KenTX

My Plextor 24x had to be set to software as when I tried setting it to hardware it would not work.

If Sim's House Party is SD2, all you will need is Fast Error Skip, Hardware, Read Retry 0. I don't think 24102B let's you do Software or None. It will default to back to Hardware. Open the Log window in CloneCD while reading to see exactly what it's doing.

mine is the same way. i've read of some people with this burner being able the change the correction setting but when i tried it always reset to hardware. it also seems that it wanted to do 3 retries to start with but it works great with 0 and is about a hundred times faster. i can read most sd2 games in under 5 minutes and burn them in under 4 minutes using these settings. 100% success rate.

btw, be sure to update your firmware. the latest version (5s0f) improves reading and writing speed even more.

24102b only supports error correction in hardware
if you select any other it will be changed automaticly back to hardware

read retries can be set to 0 [faster reading] if the source disk is
clean with no scratches.

i've never had any problems with any of the firmwares. when i first got mine i had already downloaded 5s07 and installed that before i ever tried burning a cd. all others have seemed to make slight improvements in speed and burn quality.
