Not all drives have the function builtin to their fw, dvdinfo can only scan if drive fw has the control codes in it. As it stands only a very few fw have it , nec 3500 not release to public, liteon, pioneer, BenQ, nu tech, sony if and only if its oem liteon, philips if an only if its got the right fw.

your real best bet is to take asus back and get one of the drives that can scan from list above. Sorry about the only way i can see to scan is to have drive that has the scan stuff in it.

Hi,

I understand your frustration,  but this is something I probably cannot add without the assistance of Asus.  The commands to do the scanning probably are not in there.  However they may be,  the only way to find out is to do some testing.  If you want to email me direct  nicw@bigpond.net.au  i will make a special version for you to test,  and if it works we can release publicly.
cheers

Hi,

GOOD NEWS folks,  we managed to get the Asus drive going.  Any ASUS DRW-1608P owners out there,  can email us to test.  If no problems we will release this very soon.  Initial tests look good though the drive is scanning.

cheers

After consultation with Nic I converted my Pioneer 109 to an ASUS    DRW-1608P 1.50  and he produced several builds for me to test and here is the final result.

Anyone with the ASUS DRW-1608P  interested in testing this build email Nic for details
Here is the scan of the same disc scanned in my NU drive

This was a very bad quailty burn and was the first disc I laid my hands on for testing.
Generaly the scan results are considerably lower than in these scans
