Laserlock will cost you money.

Do you need a program for audio cd's. or for cd-roms ?

You need a specialized protection only if you are going to distribute large quantities of discs.
For your personal backups use WinZip with a very long (and strong) password!

There are some CD protection schemes (like FreeLock) at CD MediaWorld... allthought I see no reason to use such thing as "CD protection"...

Try http://www.cdmediaworld.com/hardware/cdrom/cd_utils_3.shtml first, or navigate from http://www.cdmediaworld.com/ by yourself...

It is questionable if anything YOU can write, would pose much problem to software such as CloneCD, Alcohol or Blindwritesuite - or even, in some cases, some writers with very little software assistance.

If you're looking at a small run / high value situation, then individually customizing each CD with a "Licenced to" may discourage illicit use, as the person responsible for allowing it to be copied would be marked out.

Only other thought is to go for an authentication route - doesn't need to be as deep as Microsoft, but deriving a challenge key from elements of the system - and delivering a validating key with a formula which would be difficult to reverse-engineer may be possible.
