I updated to the ad version of DVDInfoPro and ran into a problem. I read that I should uninstall/reinstall and did so, but the problem persists.

On my LG 4163b with firmware A102, DVDInfoPro gives me a message on the BookType menu to upgrade to firmware A104 then boots me away from BookType settings.
On my other LG burner, GCE-8523B, a non-DVD drive, it allows the BookType menu to appear with "AOpen Bitsetting" being displayed in the title bar.

According to LG's site, the most recent firmware for a 4163b is A102, and my GCE-8523B is 104 (currently it's 103).
It would appear that DVDInfoPro thinks these drives are oppositely selected in regard to BookType settings, as Media correctly reports the appropriate discs in the drives.

Perhaps I'm missing something?

DVDInfoPro is mistakenly referring to the 4120 as that was the first LG model with bitsetting and that feature was only available on A104 and later firmware versions.

Well, I have some good news and some bad news.

The good news is it no longer allows bitsetting for my GCE-8523B.

The bad news is I still get the A104 message for my 4163b.

Most certainly a valiant effort!

Similar problem: with my LG 4163B and Nero 6.6.0.8.
I found out that there's no problem when burning CD-ROM ISO (data), either in CD-R or CD-RW. But I until now I haven't managed to burn one single Audio (music) CDs. Nero always freezes after 18-19%.

System:
Win XP SP2
Pentium III/850MHz, 256 MB RAM
LG 4163B located in an external box and connected to a laptop with a IEEE1394 cable. At least, I don't need to reboot: switching off the external box is enough.

Is is this a problem with the LG 4163B?? Is there a solution ??

A new firmware (A103) is now indeed available on the LG website (www.lge.com). I'll try to make the upgrade this week-end. Let's hope for the best !

Thanks fellas,

Zeb briefed me on this today. I will look into it and try and fix it for next version which is due on or around 17th March 2005. I dont have a drive, but I think a couple of my testers do.

cheers
NicW
