Problems while updating ASUS CDRW-5224A firmware - 5/2/2003 10:41:39 PM

I get an error message:

"Only a part of a ReadProcessMemory or WriteProcessMemory request was completed."

Anyone else gets this or knows how to solve it?
And is there an update utility that solves this?
Maybe the updating works, in spite of the message. How can I tell?
Help.

Try to disable DMA before running the firmware flash

Me again. At the suggestion of a ASUS support engineer, I succeded updating on a different system. Apparently, there's a protection error with my OS.
It's strange that no one else has reported this error. Yet.
ANYONE????

What operating system are you running? I haven't heard of any conflicts with OS's while flashing a drive.

I got WinXP SP1. I suppose my OS could have problems recognizing some hardware. (could be the IDE channel). Or there's some BIOS protection set...

Freakie stuff. Now I got v1.35 and I'm as happy as a kid in candyland.

Sounds more like the "drive" had the problem, that's why they had you flash it on a different "os" system. And now after that firmware, the drive works fine in your "current" OS. But I guess the main point is, you got it working through their support, that's the most important thing.

I've got the same problem here. Did the Asus guy have any other ideas? I've tried running the program in the various compatibility modes with no luck. I don't have any access to any other computers running anything but XPSP1.

Ryan,

Do you have aspi 4.71 installed? If you do, this is a problem, it has long been a problem for WinXP. If you do, remove it, and you can install this ASPI (4.60) here to fix the problem:

As I remember, the ASUS guy only mentioned that there must be "a protection error on my system" and he asked for more detailed specs, as he was a little puzzeled...
I succeded updating on a Win2k system. What's the aspi version of Win2k?
And Ryan, please tell us if Mogul's suggestion works.
