Below is a picture of the Ultra Speed (24X) CDRW's I purchased from Best Buy. Stay AWAY from them, they are no good. I was SUPPOSED to receive replacements in the mail from MEMOREX, but their deadline has already elapsed, and NO new discs... Go figure on that one. As stated previously, I said I would post information as to replacement of this media from Memorex. They had sent me an email a while back and said I would receive the media within 3 weeks. Well, since 3 weeks came and went, I sent another email this morning, also attaching THEIR email. Within minutes I received an Email with a telephone number to call. I called the number, I was informed that they had NEVER sent me an email and that I had never asked for my media to be replaced. LOL [8D] so I asked while I was talking with her if I could FORWARD their email to her. This surprised her. And she stated, "no this will not be necessary, I found your claim" That's amazing isn't it? So here we are again, I'm still waiting on this media to be replaced. I will keep all informed. From my "personal" experience, Memorex is not performing up to par on customer service. You may want to ask if you should purchase their media or not.

Hi, Been there, done that. Memorex support said the problem with only being able to write at 10x was the fault of the drive and I should contact Yamaha. Anyhow, what I found at Micro Center was Verbatim Ultra Speed made by Misubishi Chemical. They seem just fine at 24x. I had to give about $13.00 for ten. Good Luck

heh heh ... you should email them with the URL to this thread. yeah, i would rather buy a Mitsubishi made RW than a memorex special :-).

Yeah, I also contacted Yamaha, who stated the media was EXTREMELY CHEAP and would not write above 4X without TONS of errors. Go figure! I couldn't get this media to write at ANY speed and produce an audio/data cd that could even be read!

The Saga Continues: Today I received my 5 replacement CDRW's from Memorex. Guess what they sent, same cheap non working InfoDisc CDRWs! Imagine that. The only difference in these 5 that they sent and the others, when you insert these and try to write no matter what program you use, you get this message: BAD MEDIA, PLEASE INSERT A WORKING CDRW. Imagine that. Todays lesson boys and girls, STAY AWAY FROM THIS MEDIA!

I like that error message! very clear and to the point! you should send a copy of it to Memorex. It probably won't do anything really, but I'd like to see them try to argue agaisnt it!! It's not like they can really blame it on the burner [:D]

Hiya Mogul, Thank you for posting. I'm sorry to hear about the problems you've been experiencing with the 24X CD-RW media you've purchased from Memorex. As you may know, this is a mildly conflicted situation for me, as the ex-Product Manager for the CRW-F1, and the current Drive Product Manager over here at Memorex. Here's the situation as best as I understand it: When the final firmware for the CRW-F1 (1.0f) was released, Infodisc was just ramping up production of their 24X CD-RW media. They were one of the last vendors to enter into the 24X media market, and their media was not tested as part of the 1.0f qualification. It is my current understanding that the media has been sent to Yamaha for testing, but no new firmware revisions have been made to support this media at this time. We are anxiously awaiting a new release of the firmware so that this media can be addressed properly. I have personally tested this media on other brand drives, and I have not had similar difficulties, so I believe that this is merely a firmware issue, and hopefully one that can be resolved shortly by Yamaha. I hope this answers your questions,

Mark, Good to see you again! And thanks for the information, it's more than I could get from ANYONE, either Yamaha, or Memorex, until you came on! Mark Has VERIFIED to me that this is a FIRMWARE issue, the media was produced after Yamaha's 1.0f firmware was released. As we all know now, Yamaha isn't producing drives anymore. For those who don't know, Mark was formerly from Yamaha! Mark also, went OUT OF HIS WAY to send this information to Yamaha. GO MEMOREX!

Okay, the long awaited 1.0g firmware for the yamaha has arrived, and I tested the new firmware with this InfoDisc Media. Let me post some atip info for you: Manufacturer : Infodisc Code : 97m25s31f Disc Type : UltraSpeed CD-RW Usage : General Recording Layer : Phase Change Recording Speed : 4 X - 10 X Capacity : 79:59.74 703 MB Additional Capacity : n/a Overburn Capacity : not tested (Replacement Discs Provided By Memorex) Yamaha CRWF-1 With 1.0g Firmware Does not recognize this as a CDRW or CDR Disc at all ------------------------------------------------------ Manufacturer : Infodisc Code : 97m25s31f Disc Type : UltraSpeed CD-RW Usage : General Recording Layer : Phase Change Recording Speed : 24 X Capacity : 79:59.74 703 MB Additional Capacity : n/a Overburn Capacity : not tested (Original Purchased Discs at BestBuy) Also Memorex Ultraspeed Yamaha CRWF-1 with 1.0g Firmware RECOGNIZES and writes to this disc, however, ALL DATA IS CORRUPTED and is completely unreadable, either as an audio or data disc. ----------------------------------------------------------- Manufacturer : Mitsubishi Code : 97m34s23f Disc Type : UltraSpeed CD-RW Usage : General Recording Layer : Phase Change Recording Speed : 24 X Capacity : 74:43.00 656 MB Additional Capacity : n/a Overburn Capacity : not tested (This Media Was purchased from YAMAHA) This media with 1.0g firmware writes perfect as audio or data, no problems at all Okay, the discs that I FIRST purchased Under the Memorex Ultra Speed label (InfoDisc) show that they write at 24X, and don't show any problems until you try to read them. They are totally UNREADABLE when written at 24x whether you write in data mode, or audio mode. THESE DISCS DO WRITE FINE FROM 10X-16X THOUGH, SO ALL IS NOT LOST. The replacement discs that I was sent, ARE NOT RECOGNIZED at all. The only difference I can see in the ATIP is the write speed????? The Yamaha discs I purchased (Mitsubishi) are fine, no problems at full rewrite speed.

I wonder what Memorex will say now that the new firmware prooves the fault to be on their end?

Well, At least they do write at 10-16X, even though not at the advertised speed rating. I also tried in a LiteOn and Plextor drive, same results, only write between 10-16X, not 24. At least the discs are usable.

Ussable if the writing quality is to low to read them correct back ?
