P/S Rahzel

You would want to know that while I tried flashing with the 3.22 EXE file, I got an error saying that they couldn't find my drive which was weird and I couldn't use the EXE to flash my drive.

Instead I used the BINFlash GUI to load the EXE file and flashed it. I hope that does not screw things up. :(

rahzel -> RE: NEC 3520A and OEM official firmware overview! (4/24/2005 6:41:59 PM)

even though its an exe file doesnt mean you can flash it without a flasher. You need binflash or binflashGUI to flash which you did.

well, im kind of a n00b at firmwares too but i do know quite a bit about DVD media and i know which DVD writers are good etc. I'm not too familiar with DVDInfo Pro as i havnt used it that much but i had a similar issue with BinFlash GUI. Binflash GUI has the option to change the bitsetting for all +R media types and it also said bitsetting wasnt supported. I asked a similar question to yours and i got the answer, 3.22 has autobitsetting for all +R media so it doesnt have the option to change it to anything and that it will change it to -ROM when your burn.

Ive tried a +RW but it didnt change it to -ROM but it did change a DVD5 +R to -ROM. Ive yet to try a DVD9 +R yet (i will on tuesday though).

anyway, unless your DVD player isnt ancient, +R media even without bitsetting should playback fine.

btw, Ricoh media is pretty good.

Sorry,

Last quick question, where do you see all these "changes" that you're talking about? The DVD 5 +R to "-ROM" etc. I'm a little confused about this part.

You got that right about BINFlash, I checked and it says now that bitsetting is not supported. So I guess it's just "Auto-ed" now and doesn't let you change things and screw things up.

after you burn it to your DVD+R/RW/DL+R, keep the disc in the tray, open DVDInfo Pro or any program that reads the discs info and look for a "booktype" to check if its still DVD+R or if its DVD-ROM.

Got that. Thanks so much Rahzel. [:)]

Cheers.

I hope someone can help me. I just updated my NEC ND3520-A with the new liggy's and Dee's firmware. The update went smooth and the burner was working great. for a few hours... now there is no power whatsoever going to the burner. Did I just kill this drive? Any thoughts.. I really could use some help.

Thanks.

check to see if the molex power connector to the drive is pluggled in securely.

if the drive doesnt power up, i think youre S.O.L.

I'm totally new to burning DVD's I want to backup some movies by using 1 Click DVD copy, it read the movie just fine but when I try to burn the drive it only recognizes any blank DVD-R with 4.3Gb(according to Nero Info Tool),(I've tried Sony, Optodisc and Maxell and they all report to have 4.3Gb) and therefore doesn't allow me to burn more than 4.3Gb. Will updating the firmware from 1.04 to 3.22 allow me to burn at 4.7GB?? Any advice is welcome

a DVD5 isnt actually 4.7gb, its something like 4.7bytes which translates to approx. 4.37/4.38gb or 4482mb.

rahzel -> RE: NEC 3520A and OEM official firmware overview! (4/29/2005 10:05:05 PM)

oops, just to clear up my post, i didnt mean 4.7bytes, i meant 47000000000 bytes or something like that.

Smoke -> RE: NEC 3520A and OEM official firmware overview! (4/30/2005 9:51:21 AM)

I download "I-O Data 3.22 with DL-9 support (rebadged to NEC 3520)". In archive are 2 files:
323_FAST.bin and 323_RCP1.bin. Which of them to use?

Quikee -> RE: NEC 3520A and OEM official firmware overview! (4/30/2005 10:13:16 AM)

The FAST has RipLock removed... but it's not RPC1 or regionfree. The RPC1 has both removed RipLock and is RPC1.

StefanT -> RE: NEC 3520A and OEM official firmware overview! (5/3/2005 2:42:52 AM)

I am currently setting up a media PC with Linux. (with a NEC3520A in it).
What I am searching for is a way to slowdown playback of any DVD.
I tried several firmwares but had no luck yet.

CD-Bremse is no option as it is under Linux.

Any hints?

Thanks in advance,
Stefan

Quikee -> RE: NEC 3520A and OEM official firmware overview! (5/3/2005 7:18:28 AM)

You can slow down reading using hdparm... but don't know how exactly as I don't use linux. =)

StefanT -> RE: NEC 3520A and OEM official firmware overview! (5/3/2005 7:26:54 AM)

Unfortunately neither hdparm nor eject do work (both have options for slowdown).
Might be a Linux problem that it does not work, however. I will investigate in that
direction too.

My hope was to find some modified firmware or a tool that allows to change
the drive parameters.
