I am a rookie when it comes to making backups of games. I wanted to make a backup of my ghost recon game for the pc but I'm having a little trouble. I just downloaded the free trial version of alcohol but I'm not having any luck. I keep getting disc read error messages. Can anyone help?

What are your PC specs with all opto-drives listed. Go here and download ClonyXXL to determine what protection (if any) is used.

ghost recon is protected with safedisk 2. in the lower left corner of the copy wizard window set datatype to safedisk 2. don't be concerned about the errors, they are part of the copy protection. using the correct datatype should greatly speed up the reading process.

Netman: Thanks for your input, but I am not sure about the software you recommend to copy Ghost Recon CD which is protected with SafeDisk 2.

Alcohol 120% will do the job....

yes, since this is the alcohol forum i just assumed that's what you were using.

I finally got the game to copy, but I am having a problem with the installation process. I'm getting a data error(cyclic redundancy check) message during installation. Should I have changed something other than the datatype?

sounds like you might have made a corrupt image. i would try making another one. you can mount it in alcohol and check it before you try to burn it to avoid making coasters.
