Red Squirrel -> *** LG 4120B Bitsetting *** (10/7/2004 4:41:56 PM)

I've carefully followed all the instructions to reset my DVD-RW media to DVD-ROM compatibilty using the LG bitsetter supplied in DVDinfo. However when I burn a disk with Nero (which has been set to unmodified) the info media view on DVDinfo shows the disk still has a booktype of "DVD-RW". What am I doing wrong?-The LG 4120B firmware is A111. I'm also unclear as to how I confirm that the change has been made-am I looking in the wrong place. I'm assuming that it is the media info view which needs to be refreshed after the DVD is burnt. I need to practice on DVD-RW before I waste loads of cash on DL media!. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I don't think that LG supports DVD-ROM for DVD-RW media[8|]

Can somebody confirm this as it means testing has to be done on DVD+R which is potentially more expensive. The interface on the bitsetter suggest that this is possible as it lists options for both +R and RW. I'm finding the incompatability issues a nightmare with the new DL media!

Bitsetting only work on + media bitsetting wont work on - media.

All the bitsetting programs, and also DVDinfopro only bitset +R +R DL and +RW

I know this because I'm one or zebra and NicW beta testers for both DVD write modes and DVDinfopro updates.

GSA-4120B will bitset DVD+R and DVD+R DL to DVD-ROM just fine, i think there are still issues with DVD+RW

Is there anyway to determine with DVDinfo that you have set the correct option before burning the disk. I assume you would look at the media info but as the disk has not been burnt at this stage would it just show the state of the manufacturers factory default?

....just an afterthought....surely the most useful option for bitsetting would be able to apply this to RW media. I don't know the technical aspects as to why it currently does not work but surely this needs to be the focus of any research as we all need to test players with the new bitsetting tool. If +RW does not work you just reformat it-with +R you get a nice coaster!

DVD+RW doesn't work cause of firmware limitation, DVD+R/+R9 bitsetting works
