The "No Read Limit" refers to all types of media or just those with DVD-Video content?

How about trying with  Nero's Drive Speed to set the speed of the drive up to 16X?

No, it's referring to the firmware limit for reading that type of media.
The drive is already at 16x...it's the firmware limiting certain types of media.

I tried flashing all firmwares found at http://hijacker.rpc1.org/toshiba_nolimit/
and all the XS firmwares from http://tdb.rpc1.org/#M1802  (not the fun pack)

+/-R discs are read at max of 8x.
I checked DMA and closed all other programs. What am I doing wrong?

This is with firmware XS1051RS (TDB's) reading a Taiyo Yuden dvd-r.

This could just be the speed at which your computer is maxing out to.  What speed processor do you have?

Athlon 64 3000+.

I could reach 16x with my P3 450 and toshiba 1612...

Perhaps it's not liking your TY media.  Have you tried Verbatim just to see?  Or even DVD+R?

The same happens with TDK.
I might try a firmware from TDBs' FunPack next week.

How should I flash TDBs' FunPack firmware?
Using v166teg.exe gives a message saying that the firmware file is invalid.
